Nanni Moretti
Nanni Moretti (born 1953) is an Italian director, screenwriter, actor, and producer, one of the most distinctive voices in postwar Italian cinema. Self-taught as a filmmaker, he made his Super-8 debut Io Sono un Autarchico while in his early twenties and has gone on to produce a body of work characterized by a sharp autobiographical streak, political engagement with the Italian left, and a recurring on-screen presence as a thinly veiled version of himself. His acclaimed films include Ecce Bombo, Sweet Dreams, The Mass Is Ended, Palombella Rossa, Dear Diary, April, The Son's Room (which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes), The Caiman, We Have a Pope, and A Brighter Tomorrow.
