Mohsen Makhmalbaf
Mohsen Makhmalbaf (born 1957) is an Iranian director, screenwriter, and producer, a defining figure of the post-revolution Iranian New Wave. Imprisoned in his youth for activity against the Pahlavi regime, he began directing in the early 1980s and rapidly developed from politically conformist early work into one of Iran's most internationally celebrated filmmakers. He has also produced films by his wife Marziyeh Meshkini and his daughters Samira and Hana Makhmalbaf. His acclaimed films include The Peddler, The Cyclist, Once Upon a Time, Cinema, Gabbeh, A Moment of Innocence, The Silence, and Kandahar.
