Michael Curtiz
Michael Curtiz (1886–1962) was a Hungarian-American director who directed more than 170 films across a career that began in early Hungarian and Austrian cinema and continued through several decades of contract direction at Warner Bros. in Hollywood. His extraordinary technical fluency, work ethic, and ability to work across genre made him one of the defining figures of classical Hollywood studio cinema. His acclaimed films include Doctor X, 20,000 Years in Sing Sing, Captain Blood, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Angels with Dirty Faces, Yankee Doodle Dandy, Casablanca (for which he won the Academy Award for Best Director), Mildred Pierce, and White Christmas.
