Mehdi Charef

Mehdi Charef (born 1952) is an Algerian-French director, screenwriter, and novelist. After publishing the autobiographical novel Tea in the Harem of Archi Ahmed, about young Algerian Frenchmen in the Parisian banlieue, he adapted it to the screen as his feature debut. His acclaimed films include Tea in the Harem, Miss Mona, Cartouches Gauloises, and Marie-Line and Her Children.
