Maya Deren, Alexander Hammid

Maya Deren (1917–1961) and Alexander Hammid (1907–2004) were the husband-and-wife filmmaking team whose 1943 short Meshes of the Afternoon is one of the most influential works in the history of American experimental cinema. Hammid was a Czech-born documentary filmmaker who emigrated to the United States with Deren. Their joint acclaimed film is Meshes of the Afternoon.
