Matteo Garrone
Matteo Garrone (born 1968) is an Italian director, screenwriter, and producer, one of the most internationally celebrated figures of contemporary Italian cinema. The son of a film critic, he trained as a painter before turning to filmmaking and developed a body of work that ranges across hyper-realist crime drama, postmodern fable, and lavish fairy-tale adaptation. His acclaimed films include Land in Between, The Embalmer, First Love, Gomorrah (which won the Grand Prix at Cannes), Reality, Tale of Tales, Dogman, Pinocchio, and Io Capitano.
