Márta Mészáros
Márta Mészáros (born 1931) is a Hungarian director and screenwriter, the first woman in Hungarian cinema to direct a feature film and one of the most internationally celebrated Hungarian filmmakers of her generation. Raised partly in the Soviet Union after her sculptor father was imprisoned during Stalin's purges, she trained at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow before returning to Hungary. Her work has focused with unusual constancy on the lives of women and on the autobiographical Diary cycle. Her acclaimed films include The Girl, Adoption (which won the Golden Bear at Berlin), Nine Months, The Two of Them, Diary for My Children, Diary for My Loves, and Last Report on Anna.
