Mario Monicelli
Mario Monicelli (1915–2010) was an Italian director and screenwriter, one of the central figures of the commedia all'italiana — the bittersweet comic-dramatic tradition that defined much of Italian popular cinema from the 1950s through the 1970s. He began as an assistant and screenwriter and turned to direction first in partnership with Steno before establishing his own celebrated solo career. His acclaimed films include Cops and Robbers, Big Deal on Madonna Street, The Great War, The Organizer, The Girl with the Pistol, Brancaleone's Army, We Want the Colonels, My Friends, and Caro Michele.
