Maïwenn
Maïwenn (born 1976) is a French director, screenwriter, and actress, one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary French cinema. A former child actress, she turned to direction in the 2000s and developed a confrontational, improvisationally inflected style — large ensembles, handheld camera, emotional rawness — that has drawn comparisons to Cassavetes and Pialat. Her acclaimed films include Pardonnez-moi, The Actresses' Ball, Polisse (which won the Jury Prize at Cannes), Mon Roi, DNA, and Jeanne du Barry.
