Li Shaohong

Li Shaohong is a Chinese film director and producer born in 1955 in Suzhou, China. A graduate of the Beijing Film Academy, she emerged as one of the leading figures of China’s “Fifth Generation” filmmakers alongside directors such as Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige. Li is known for visually rich films and television dramas that often focus on women’s experiences, social change, and emotional complexity. Her acclaimed films include Bloody Morning (1990), Blush (1995), Baober in Love (2004) and Stolen Life (2005). She also gained widespread popularity for directing the television adaptation of Dream of the Red Chamber (2010).
