Lav Diaz
Lav Diaz (born 1958) is a Filipino director, screenwriter, cinematographer, and editor, one of the most internationally celebrated figures of contemporary slow cinema. His features are often extraordinarily long — eight, nine, even more than ten hours — and engage with the political and social history of the Philippines through patient observational style. His acclaimed films include Evolution of a Filipino Family, Death in the Land of Encantos, Melancholia, From What Is Before (which won the Golden Leopard at Locarno), A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery, The Woman Who Left (which won the Golden Lion at Venice), and When the Waves Are Gone.
