Lars von Trier
Lars von Trier (born 1956) is a Danish director and screenwriter, the central figure of the Dogme 95 movement and one of the most controversial provocateurs in contemporary European cinema. Trained at the National Film School of Denmark, he began with the stylized Europa trilogy before co-authoring the Dogme 95 manifesto with Thomas Vinterberg in 1995. His work since has moved between genres — chamber tragedy, musical, horror — while sustaining a confrontational engagement with morality, gender, and faith. His acclaimed films include Breaking the Waves, The Idiots, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, Antichrist, Melancholia, and Nymphomaniac.
