Krzysztof Kieslowski
Krzysztof Kieślowski (1941–1996) was a Polish director and screenwriter whose career moved from politically charged documentary to internationally celebrated chamber drama. A graduate of the Łódź Film School, he spent the 1970s making documentaries about everyday life under Polish state socialism before turning to feature filmmaking with a series of morally serious works that culminated in the ten-part television cycle The Decalogue. His collaborations with the screenwriter Krzysztof Piesiewicz and the composer Zbigniew Preisner shaped some of the defining European art cinema of the early 1990s. His acclaimed films include Camera Buff, Blind Chance, No End, The Decalogue, The Double Life of Véronique, and the Three Colours trilogy.
