Keisuke Kinoshita
Keisuke Kinoshita (1912–1998) was a Japanese director regarded as one of the most important Shochiku filmmakers of postwar Japanese cinema and an exact contemporary of Akira Kurosawa, with whom he made his feature debut in the same year. He directed nearly fifty features across more than four decades, working in an unusually wide tonal range — wartime drama, anti-militarist allegory, broad comedy, melodrama — with great technical control. His acclaimed films include Twenty-Four Eyes, A Japanese Tragedy, The Garden of Women, Carmen Comes Home, The Ballad of Narayama, and River Fuefuki.
