Kazimierz Kutz
Kazimierz Kutz (1929–2018) was a Polish director, screenwriter, and politician whose career produced one of the most distinctive regional sensibilities in postwar Polish cinema. Born in Silesia, he trained at the Łódź Film School under Andrzej Wajda and Aleksander Ford before establishing himself with a series of features set in the Silesian coal-mining communities of his youth, dealing with the region's history of national and class struggle. His acclaimed films include Cross of Valor, No One Is Calling, The Silent Star, Salt of the Black Earth, The Pearl in the Crown, and The Beads of One Rosary.
