Karel Reisz
Karel Reisz (1926–2002) was a Czech-British director, one of the central figures of the Free Cinema movement and the British New Wave. Born in Czechoslovakia and brought to England as a Kindertransport child before the Second World War, he trained as a chemist before turning to film criticism, programming for the British Film Institute, and finally direction. His acclaimed films include Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, Night Must Fall, Morgan: A Suitable Case for Treatment, Isadora, The Gambler, Who'll Stop the Rain, The French Lieutenant's Woman, and Sweet Dreams.
