Julien Duvivier

Julien Duvivier (1896–1967) was a French director, one of the most accomplished figures of pre-war and postwar French cinema. He worked through the silent and sound eras, was briefly in Hollywood during the German occupation of France, and produced a body of work characterized by craftsmanship, dramatic intensity, and an unsentimental view of human nature. His acclaimed films include Poil de Carotte, La Bandera, Pépé le Moko, Un Carnet de Bal, La Belle Équipe, Panic, and Marianne of My Youth.
