Jules Dassin
Jules Dassin (1911–2008) was an American director and screenwriter whose career was reshaped by the Hollywood blacklist of the 1950s. After establishing himself in Hollywood with a series of taut crime features, he was named before the House Un-American Activities Committee and forced into European exile, where he reinvented himself with the masterful Paris-set heist film Rififi and went on to make films in France and Greece. His acclaimed films include Brute Force, The Naked City, Thieves' Highway, Night and the City, Rififi, Never on Sunday, and Topkapi.
