Jonas Carpignano
Jonas Carpignano (born 1984) is an American-Italian director and screenwriter, one of the most internationally celebrated younger voices in contemporary European cinema. Raised in New York and Rome and educated at Wesleyan, he settled in the Calabrian town of Gioia Tauro to make his features, building them around the local Roma and migrant communities with non-professional actors. His acclaimed films include the short A Chjàna and the features Mediterranea, A Ciambra, and A Chiara — the latter together forming his Calabrian trilogy.
