John Huston
John Huston (1906–1987) was an American director, screenwriter, and actor whose career across more than four decades produced some of the defining works of classical Hollywood cinema. A boxer, painter, and journalist before turning to screenwriting in the 1930s, he debuted as a director with The Maltese Falcon and went on to direct major adaptations of American and European literature with a relaxed, masculine sensibility that drew strong performances from generations of stars. His acclaimed films include The Maltese Falcon, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, The Asphalt Jungle, The African Queen, The Misfits, Fat City, Wise Blood, Prizzi's Honor, and The Dead.
