John Grierson
John Grierson (1898–1972) was a Scottish documentary filmmaker, theorist, and producer, the founder of the British Documentary Film Movement and the first commissioner of the National Film Board of Canada. He is widely credited with coining the term documentary in its modern sense. Although he directed only a handful of films himself, he supervised and produced hundreds. His acclaimed films include Drifters and Granton Trawler.
