Jim Jarmusch
Jim Jarmusch (born 1953) is an American director, screenwriter, and musician, a foundational figure of American independent cinema. Educated at NYU's film school under Nicholas Ray, he emerged in the early 1980s with a distinctive deadpan style — long takes, fixed frames, episodic structures, and outsider characters drifting through American and international landscapes. His work draws on rock and roll, beat literature, world cinema, and a fondness for cultural collision. His acclaimed films include Stranger Than Paradise, Down by Law, Mystery Train, Dead Man, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, Coffee and Cigarettes, and Paterson.
