Jean-Jacques Beineix
Jean-Jacques Beineix (1946–2022) was a French director and screenwriter who, with his feature debut Diva, helped launch the cinéma du look of 1980s France. Trained as a doctor before turning to film as an assistant, he developed a stylized, advertising-influenced visual sensibility — saturated colour, glossy surfaces, romantic outsiders — that became enormously influential in international art and commercial cinema of the period. His acclaimed films include Diva, The Moon in the Gutter, Betty Blue, Roselyne and the Lions, IP5: The Island of Pachyderms, and Mortal Transfer.
