Jean Epstein
Jean Epstein (1897–1953) was a French director, theorist, and critic of Polish-Jewish descent, one of the founding figures of French Impressionist cinema. He wrote influential theoretical works on photogénie and on cinematic time, and directed both Impressionist features and ethnographic shorts about Brittany. His acclaimed films include Cœur Fidèle, The Fall of the House of Usher, Finis Terrae, Mor Vran, and Le Tempestaire.
