Jean Cocteau
Jean Cocteau (1889–1963) was a French poet, novelist, playwright, designer, and director whose extraordinary multi-disciplinary career placed him at the centre of French modernism for much of the first half of the twentieth century. A friend and collaborator of Picasso, Stravinsky, Diaghilev, and many others, he turned to filmmaking in the early 1930s with The Blood of a Poet, and refined a series of features built around myth, dream, and personal vision. His acclaimed films include The Blood of a Poet, Beauty and the Beast, The Eagle with Two Heads, Les Parents Terribles, Orpheus, and Testament of Orpheus.
