Jaromil Jires
Jaromil Jireš (1935–2001) was a Czech director and screenwriter, one of the central figures of the Czechoslovak New Wave. Trained at FAMU, he established his international reputation with the New Wave feature The Cry. His later feature Valerie and Her Week of Wonders has become a cult classic of European fantasy cinema. His acclaimed films include The Cry, The Joke, Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, and Catapult.
