János Szász
János Szász (born 1958) is a Hungarian director and screenwriter, one of the most acclaimed figures of post-communist Hungarian cinema. Trained at the Academy of Drama and Film in Budapest, he established his reputation with the harsh, expressionistically photographed features Woyzeck and The Witman Boys. His later work has continued to engage with Hungarian and Central European literary and historical material. His acclaimed films include Woyzeck, The Witman Boys, Eyes of the Holocaust, Opium: Diary of a Madwoman, The Notebook, and Akik Maradtak (Those Who Remained).
