Jacques Tati
Jacques Tati (1907–1982) was a French actor, director, and screenwriter, one of the great comic stylists of postwar European cinema. A former music-hall mime, he transferred his physical precision and his deadpan sense of observation into a small body of features built around the gentle, befuddled figure of Monsieur Hulot. His meticulously designed sets, layered sound design, and near-wordless gags made him an enduring influence on directors of comic mise-en-scène. His acclaimed films include Jour de Fête, Monsieur Hulot's Holiday, Mon Oncle, Playtime, Trafic, and Parade.
