Jacques Audiard
Jacques Audiard (born 1952) is a French director and screenwriter who has become one of the most prominent figures in contemporary French cinema. The son of the celebrated screenwriter Michel Audiard, he began his career as a script doctor and editor before turning to direction in the early 1990s. His features are characterized by a muscular, emotionally bruised genre sensibility and a strong interest in marginal characters — convicts, deaf interpreters, immigrants, sex workers. His acclaimed films include See How They Fall, A Self-Made Hero, Read My Lips, The Beat That My Heart Skipped, A Prophet, Rust and Bone, Dheepan (which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes), and Emilia Pérez.
