Jack Clayton
Jack Clayton (1921–1995) was a British director who, with his feature debut Room at the Top, helped launch the British New Wave. After a long apprenticeship as an editor, assistant director, and producer, he made his name with the cynical, adult drama at the centre of the so-called kitchen-sink revival of the late 1950s. His later work was more sporadic but included several large-scale literary adaptations. His acclaimed films include Room at the Top, The Innocents, The Pumpkin Eater, Our Mother's House, The Great Gatsby, Something Wicked This Way Comes, and The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne.
