Humphrey Jennings
Humphrey Jennings (1907–1950) was a British documentary director, painter, and poet, regarded as one of the most distinctive figures of the British Documentary Film Movement. A close friend of Mass Observation founder Tom Harrisson, he produced wartime documentaries that combined ethnographic curiosity, poetic sensibility, and a deep love of British landscape and music. His acclaimed films include Spare Time, London Can Take It!, Words for Battle, Listen to Britain, Fires Were Started, A Diary for Timothy, and Family Portrait.
