Hiroshi Teshigahara
Hiroshi Teshigahara (1927–2001) was a Japanese director, ikebana master, and ceramic artist, one of the most internationally celebrated figures of the Japanese New Wave. The son and successor of the head of the Sogetsu School of ikebana flower arrangement, he brought a deeply formed aesthetic sensibility into his collaborations with the novelist Kōbō Abe. His features combine modernist parable with an extraordinary tactile feeling for landscape and texture. His acclaimed films include Pitfall, Woman in the Dunes, The Face of Another, The Ruined Map, Summer Soldiers, and Rikyu.
