Hiroshi Shimizu
Hiroshi Shimizu (1903–1966) was a Japanese director regarded as one of the most distinctive stylists of pre-war and early postwar Japanese cinema. A longtime contemporary of Yasujirō Ozu at Shochiku studios, he was known for his patient observational sensibility, his use of non-professional actors and child performers, and his sensitive engagement with the lives of marginalized Japanese people. His acclaimed films include Mr. Thank You, The Masseurs and a Woman, Children in the Wind, and Children of the Beehive.
