Henri Verneuil
Henri Verneuil (1920–2002) was a French director and screenwriter, born Achod Malakian in Turkey to Armenian parents and emigrated to France in childhood. He turned to filmmaking after a career as a journalist and produced a body of work that was among the most commercially successful in postwar French cinema. His features ranged across comedy, war drama, and tough genre thrillers built around the major French stars of his era. His acclaimed films include The Sheep Has Five Legs, The Cow and I, A Monkey in Winter, Any Number Can Win, Weekend at Dunkirk, The Sicilian Clan, The Burglars, and Mayrig.
