Henri-Georges Clouzot
Henri-Georges Clouzot (1907–1977) was a French director and screenwriter widely considered one of the great masters of European suspense cinema. After early work as a screenwriter and an apprenticeship at Ufa in Berlin, he established himself in occupied France with The Raven, which would later embroil him in postwar controversy. His later thrillers, made independently, are admired for their cold, almost clinical sense of dread and for unusually demanding production methods. His acclaimed films include The Raven, Quai des Orfèvres, The Wages of Fear, Les Diaboliques, The Mystery of Picasso, and La Vérité.
