Hal Hartley
Hal Hartley (born 1959) is an American director, screenwriter, and composer, a central figure of the American independent cinema of the 1990s. After studies at SUNY Purchase, he turned to feature filmmaking on minimal budgets and developed a distinctive deadpan style — stylized dialogue delivered at an angle to its content, dance-like blocking, and a recurring small company of actors. His acclaimed films include The Unbelievable Truth, Trust, Simple Men, Amateur, Flirt, Henry Fool, No Such Thing, and Ned Rifle.
