Gu Changwei

Gu Changwei (born 1957) is a Chinese cinematographer and director whose long career as one of the great Chinese cinematographers — for Chen Kaige, Zhang Yimou, and others — gave way in the 2000s to a successful career as a director in his own right. He trained at the Beijing Film Academy in the first class to graduate after the Cultural Revolution. His features as a director draw on Chinese rural life and the experience of HIV/AIDS communities. His acclaimed films include Peacock, And the Spring Comes, Love for Life, and Saturday Fiction (as cinematographer).
