Grigori Kozintsev
Grigori Kozintsev (1905–1973) was a Soviet director, theorist, and theatre figure, one of the founders of the Factory of the Eccentric Actor (FEKS) and a major shaper of Soviet sound and post-sound cinema. Trained in painting in Petrograd, he and his longtime collaborator Leonid Trauberg combined a love of popular forms — circus, music hall, cinema — with literary ambition. His later career, working independently after the Trauberg partnership ended, produced acclaimed adaptations of Shakespeare. His acclaimed films include The Adventures of Oktyabrina, The Devil's Wheel, The New Babylon, The Maxim Trilogy, Don Quixote, Hamlet, and King Lear.
