Godfrey Reggio
Godfrey Reggio (born 1940) is an American director and former monk whose feature documentaries combine non-narrative imagery and Philip Glass scores into one of the most distinctive bodies of work in contemporary non-fiction cinema. He spent fourteen years as a Roman Catholic monk before leaving the order and turning to community organizing, media education, and eventually filmmaking. His Qatsi trilogy — produced over more than two decades — meditates on the relationship between human civilization and the natural world. His acclaimed films include Koyaanisqatsi, Powaqqatsi, Naqoyqatsi, and Visitors.
