Gianni Amelio
Gianni Amelio (born 1945) is an Italian director and screenwriter, one of the most accomplished Italian filmmakers to emerge after the great postwar generation. Trained in philosophy at the University of Messina before turning to film, he made his feature debut in 1970 and produced a body of work that combines moral seriousness, restrained craftsmanship, and a recurring interest in fathers, sons, and the displaced. His acclaimed films include Blow to the Heart, Open Doors, Stolen Children, Lamerica, The Way We Laughed, The Keys to the House, and The First Man.
