George Cukor
George Cukor (1899–1983) was an American director, one of the great craftsmen of classical Hollywood and a longtime favourite of major American stars, particularly women. After a career in the New York theatre he came to Hollywood with the arrival of sound and produced a long body of work distinguished by elegant adaptation, sophisticated comedy, and finely judged star performances. He won the Academy Award for Best Director for My Fair Lady. His acclaimed films include Dinner at Eight, David Copperfield, Camille, Holiday, The Women, The Philadelphia Story, Gaslight, Adam's Rib, A Star Is Born, Bhowani Junction, and My Fair Lady.
