Garin Nugroho
Garin Nugroho (born 1961) is an Indonesian director, screenwriter, and producer, one of the most internationally celebrated figures of contemporary Indonesian cinema. Trained as a lawyer and a film critic before turning to direction, he has produced a body of features characterized by visual lyricism and a sustained engagement with Indonesian regional cultures. His acclaimed films include Leaf on a Pillow, Bird-Man Tale, Opera Jawa, Soegija, Memories of My Body, and Samin vs. Semen.
