Forgács Péter

Péter Forgács (born 1950) is a Hungarian artist and filmmaker, one of the most internationally celebrated figures in the contemporary essay-film and found-footage tradition. His Private Hungary cycle and other features are constructed largely from amateur home-movie footage gathered from Central European Jewish and gentile families across the twentieth century, reflecting on the relationship between private and political history. His acclaimed films include The Bartos Family, Free Fall, The Maelstrom, The Danube Exodus, Class Lot, and El Perro Negro.
