Fernand Léger

Fernand Léger (1881–1955) was a French painter, sculptor, and filmmaker, one of the most important French modernist artists of the twentieth century. Primarily a painter associated with Cubism, he made one widely celebrated film: the experimental short Ballet Mécanique, made in collaboration with the American filmmaker Dudley Murphy. His acclaimed film work is Ballet Mécanique.
