Evald Schorm
Evald Schorm (1931–1988) was a Czech director, screenwriter, and stage director, one of the central figures of the Czechoslovak New Wave. A graduate of FAMU, he began with documentaries before turning to fiction features built around moral and existential crisis in late-socialist Czechoslovakia. Often described as the conscience of the New Wave, his films were sharply critical of bureaucratic and political conformity, and he was banned from film direction after the Soviet-led invasion of 1968. His acclaimed films include Courage for Every Day, Return of the Prodigal Son, Five Girls to Cope With, End of a Priest, and Pearls of the Deep (segment).
