Erik Poppe
Erik Poppe is a Norwegian film director, screenwriter, and former photojournalist born in Oslo in 1960. Before turning to filmmaking, he worked as an award-winning war and news photographer, an experience that strongly influenced the realism and emotional intensity of his films. Poppe gained international recognition with Hawaii, Oslo (2004), followed by acclaimed works such as Troubled Water (2008), A Thousand Times Good Night (2013), and The King’s Choice (2016), which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He also directed Utøya: July 22 (2018), a powerful real-time portrayal of the 2011 Norway attacks.
