Elio Petri
Elio Petri (1929–1982) was an Italian director and screenwriter whose politically engaged genre features made him one of the most distinctive Italian directors of the 1960s and 70s. After early work as a critic and assistant to Giuseppe De Santis, he turned to direction with the political thriller The Assassin. His feature Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. His acclaimed films include The Assassin, The 10th Victim, We Still Kill the Old Way, A Quiet Place in the Country, Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion, The Working Class Goes to Heaven (which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes), Property Is No Longer a Theft, and Todo Modo.
