Edwin S. Porter
Edwin S. Porter (1870–1941) was an American director and cameraman, one of the central figures of pre-feature American cinema. He worked for the Edison Manufacturing Company at the turn of the twentieth century, where he directed many short narrative films that helped shape the syntax of early narrative cinema. His acclaimed films include Life of an American Fireman, The Great Train Robbery, The Kleptomaniac, and Dream of a Rarebit Fiend.
