Edgar G. Ulmer
Edgar G. Ulmer (1904–1972) was an Austrian-American director who specialized in low-budget genre features during the studio era and the post-studio era. He worked briefly on major productions — including with F. W. Murnau on Sunrise — before settling into a long career as a director of B-pictures that were nonetheless distinguished by his visual imagination and economical storytelling. His acclaimed films include People on Sunday (co-directed), The Black Cat, Bluebeard, Strange Illusion, Detour, Ruthless, and The Naked Dawn.
