Don Siegel
Don Siegel (1912–1991) was an American director who was for many years one of the most reliable craftsmen of Hollywood genre cinema. He came up at Warner Bros. as a montage and second-unit director — winning two Academy Awards for short films — before establishing himself as a feature director who specialized in tough, economical crime, Western, and war pictures. He is often cited as a key mentor to Clint Eastwood. His acclaimed films include Riot in Cell Block 11, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Killers, Madigan, Dirty Harry, Charley Varrick, The Shootist, and Escape from Alcatraz.
